Hello fellow math enthusiasts! My name is Brendan Good and I am an undergraduate math(s) student at the University of Maryland at College Park and I am happy to say that I got research there as a freshman in hyperbolic and Lorentz geometry a subject that I ironically hated just a few years earlier (geometry, not hyperbolic geometry, of course

). I am quickly becoming interested in geometry and, of course, topology. I also know just more than enough abstract algebra to get by with the hyperbolic geometry research. I also enjoy physics quite a bit, in fact, I was a physics major until I realized that I dislike labs but I still study a bit of physics at the university and on my own.
Other than math, I am also into music, I've played bass for about 7 years and I've played in various bands (I should be a lot better than I am given the amount of time that I've been playing

) and because school's out, am playing in a band this summer. I also play guitar a little bit, but I mainly consider myself a bass player. Although I like to think that I have a fairly eclectic taste in music, all of the bands I have played in have been metal bands.
I was introduced to this comic by a physics major friend of mine and I went through all of the comics in one day and I loved it! I have been on the xkcd forum for a while, but I thought it would be fun to join a forum that was based on a math webcomic.
Basically, I really enjoy learning math and playing bass on the side.
