Oh no! Say it's not so! Spiked Math is about to jump the shark!

haha, Spiked Math jumped the shark a long time ago :D

Aww..Poor shark

He must be starving right now (since everyone has jumped up)

LOL

And the slope seemed so fine...

On a completely unrelated note, the title bar has really been bugging me for a while. Surely √(x^2)=±x, whereas (√x)^2=|x|? Or is that the joke, and I totally missed it?

Actually √(x^2)=|x| and (√x)^2=x.

But if you were to substitute n for x^2 in the first of those equations that would give you √n=|√n| which clearly isn't true (as √n can be positive or negative).

Actually, it is true. The radical sign denotes the principal square root. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_root

Ah, I see, didn't realise √x only referred to the positive root. Okay, that makes more sense now.

Wow just noticed the title bar Mike, is it new? (I read you on rss mostly)

It's very pretty, nice work!

I like this set of buttons!
