I had to ask a friend to explain this to me... now I get it... that is Evil.
I still don't get it. Could somebody give me a hint?
If you type the problems in, press equall, and turn a calculator upside down, the first one says "hell" and the second one will read "BIBLES". Now do you get it?
Perhaps you should stand on your head when you read the comic.
Turn the calculator upside down....
I've seen comments previously and I realise that a lot of people don't get your jokes as they require mathematical understanding beyond mandatory governmental educational levels. Please don't be disheartened and dumb it down or give up though.
XKCD sometimes requires some familliarity with physics, maths or computing and they are renowned.
In particular I enjoyed comics 2, 4, 6 and 8 and I think there was only one comic I didn't find funny at all. For me that competes with the best of the comics I read. I could give stats here but I don't quite see how I could make it funny.
The bottom line is that I think you are off to a great start, I didn't study a maths based degree and I find your comics funny (one step above 'getting' them). Don't be put off, just keep on going!
I just read all of your comics, they're awesome! Keep them coming.
I like these. Big thanks to the author. Keep up the good work. Coming up with witty ideas isn't that easy. Critics just don't get that.
I concur! These are great so far - keep 'em coming!
THESE ARE EXCELLENT
(University Math student Second Year) I only get 50% of these
Have to look up the rest, but there all halarious
Also I like daily jokes, I do not go to daily art shows
I just found this site today, and as a math fanatic, I have to say I absolutely adore it! I don't understand all of the jokes, but I look up what I don't get, so you're comic is making me laugh and teaching me stuff. It's amazing!
lol this is ridiculous... how come god needs a calculator lol..
and satan looks so cuddly and cheerful!!
I got here from an add in Questionable Content. Even your add was good. I've book marked you and look forward to dropping in.
Looking pretty good. I haven't really laughed aloud at any of them -- if that was the intention at all -- but I enjoyed reading these, and I plan to continue reading in the future. (Bookmarked.)
These are funny. Like others have said, you're off to a great start. I think the almost stick figure quality adds to the "math geek" humor. I don't get them at first, but that just makes them fun. I could look them up, but I'm too lazy, so I wait and read the comments... there's always someone who gives it away enough for me to grasp it!
Wait... How can God say "OMG"?
Clearly God denies Russel's resolution to Russel's Paradox.
I got all of the jokes, except the poker one - doh. The jokes are all very straight-forward, and sometimes blatant and juvenile. And I'm not even a math major. Let's assume that this comic is presumably aiming at people above the 90 percentile measuring intelligence. (Who else would bother?) Considering such an audience, it could have trickier punchlines without a problem.
The characters could need some more depth too. Like that Alex triangle smiling all the time (the strip with 'before I root you') - it's just creepy. Either Alex could have been disappointed, or perhaps smug. But he was smiling like a moron, which ruined the joke for me. Bah.
By the way God, try this: 2^3 * 3 * 2417. ~_^
@ David At least be happy that you've finally found a website where the people who write the comments possess brains. Now if we'd join forces with the folks on XKCD's forums, damn, North Korea would bow down before us.
LMFAO at "2^3 * 3 * 2417"
This is pretty hilarious. I don't have any math training over highschool stats, but I surprisingly still get it.
forget the tough college maths..
this is common sense maths taught before high school generally..
dint get at first.... thanks for the comments got the idea..
Its funny, the devil saids " Oh My GOD!"
